I mostly just used Bangor savings bank for a checking account because they are local, but also because they are so versatile. I can use my card anywhere and there are plenty of ATM's and branches available. I have NEVER had an issue using my card anywhere, and I have traveled out of state several times. The tellers are usually nice, there's always that one teller at that one branch, so I really can't complain about service. I personally didn't have a use for either service but I liked that the first year off a safety deposit box is free and they offer waivers on mortgage applications, which is usually a $100 dollar expense. As far as I know there are no annual or usage fees applicable to the checking account I had. They also offer a mobile app which I have not taken the time to download and utilize.
I went into the bank on a daily basis and was always greeted by name and with the biggest of smiles. Each and everyone of them remembered details from my previous visits and conversations we had had and was amazingly engaged. I was getting ready to go on a trip to Florida and was asked all about it and where I was going, how long I was going to be there and so on. After returning from vacation, I was greeted with the biggest smiles and asked all about it in great detail. The way I was greeted you would of thought I was the president.
Bangor savings has what they call "Grey Areas" and will turn off your services seemingly at random. I make over $100k a year and dipped into their "No Return Benefits" for 1 week between significant deposits and they turned off the feature without ANY sort of notification. DO NOT USE THIS BANK!
